Grandma's Buffet

I was cleaning out the top drawer of my buffet today.  Though I didn’t inherit it from my Grandma, she had one like it.  I chuckled as I sorted through the stuff thinking, “I bet Grandma’s buffet didn’t hold half the assortment that mine had.”  Probably the only thing common contents would be tablecloths.  Even then, I doubt she had a vinyl Christmas tablecloth there for the sole purpose of protecting the table when the kid’s do artwork or a purple tablecloth with a satiny, fruity design.  No, I’m sure the tablecloths held in Grandma’s buffet were white or ivory and crocheted or hand sewn or embroidered.  Where Grandma’s buffet housed a chest of silverware mine holds a variety of plastic leftover containers and lids to sippy cups.  Where she kept elegant china, I keep Corelle wear.  Where she kept other special linens, I find stencils and stencil paint, baggies of screws and tacks, a hammer, the warranty from our digital thermostat and last but not least a gameboy.  If Grandma was alive and came looking, she would probably be shocked to find my husband’s tools in the buffet instead of out in his workshop--Grandpa was a carpenter, Tony doesn’t even HAVE a workshop (  And I imagine she wouldn’t have half a clue what the latter two items even were!  And that only makes me wonder, “What kind of things will MY granddaughter’s buffets hold some 50 or 60 years from now?”
