Over lunch today, you said, “Mom, tell me a joke.” Your latest thing when going potty has been, “Mom, tell me a story.” So, I viewed this as an improvement…in both location and time. Personally, I think it’s just your way of keeping me in the bathroom where you have spotted yucky spiders before and you don’t want to be in there alone. Either way…it’s hard to tell you no.
So, back to lunch…
Mom: Why did the chicken cross the road?
Kerri: I don’t know!
Mom: To get to the other side! Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha!
Mom: Why did the chicken cross the playground?
Kerri: To get to other side? (you’re catching on!)
Mom: To get to the other slide. Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha!
Kerri: Now a knock-knock joke.
Mom: Knock, knock?
Kerri: Who’s there?
Mom: Dewey.
Kerri: Dewey who?
Mom: Dewey have to eat lunch?
Mom: Mmmmm (trying to think of another clever joke)
Kerri: Do Marie…you know…Marie on Aristocats?
Mom: Knock, knock?
Kerri: Who’s there?
Mom: Marie.
Kerri: Marie who?
Mom: Marie (and something that we can’t remember that rhymes with Marie…now I am learning how to play this game like a five year old!)
Kerri: Knock, knock?
Mom: Who’s there?
Kerri: Berlioz. (Marie’s brother)
Mom: Berlioz who?
Kerri: Berlioz who wants to talk another joke.
Kerri: Knock, knock?
Mom: Who’s there?
Kerri: Shark (looking at her zoo animals plasticware)
Mom: Shark who (groaning in my head at the frustration of having to go through my third round of five year old knock-knock jokes with a child who just doesn’t get how they work!)
Kerri: Shark wants a bite!
Mom: Knock, knock?
Kerri: Who’s there?
Mom: Iris.
Kerri: Iris who?
Mom: Iris you understood how knock-knock jokes worked. (smile)
