Nothin' More American than Baseball

Something about losing a family member urges those of us remaining to want to live life to the fullest, throw caution to the wind and make some memories while the opportunity is still here. How many holidays did we eat and run? Or simply sit around and talk but not DO anything?

Suddenly that’s all changed. Knowing that we will wake up stiff and sore tomorrow doesn’t deter us from putting memory-making high on the list of priorities. We had eaten a feast today and were sitting around when Barb suggested we needed to go out and play baseball. Play baseball? I haven’t played for years! Exactly, neither have the rest of us but that would make it all the more funny! I thought volleyball sounded safer. But when we went to look for sports equipment, we found a volleyball but no net. That wasn’t gonna work too well. But wouldn’t you know, there was a bat and Britnee had a softball that the kids had been playing catch with.

So out to the yard we trekked. All ages taking turns at bat. Then we decided to choose up teams and play a game. One thing we DID find out really quickly…a game required much more exertion than just playing around. We lasted two innings. We’ll be sore tomorrow but we made memories today. We provided Dad and our two eldest sisters with some hilarious entertainment in the process. And our only regret was that we didn’t do this more often the last few years when we could have heard Mom’s voice hollering, “Kill the umpire!”

That's why I clarified :) lol!! I couldn't get online at my dad's to post so simply wrote it while I was thinking of it. Finally got to a hotel with free wireless, yay!!

I wondered where you have been!! (When I write mine ahead of time, it puts the date I wrote it on the posting. I wish it wouldn't do that.) Makes it difficult to write a posting ahead of time!

Wish I had been there. Many times we were at your family gatherings because we couldn't go home. (usually because one of the kidlets were either ready or had just made their debut) What a good life. Sure am sorry we disconnected for awhile.

So glad you all had a great time! I'm sure that was a very calming and wonderful day for your Dad! --I didn't cry myself to sleep last night, but I cried just before doozing off, thinking about your Mom, I sure do miss her!
