She Reads

A few minutes ago I heard the girls in the dining room working on a project together. I thought they were all getting along for once (hard feat to accomplish on any given day and especially over a long vacation from school!) when suddenly, someone came bursting down the stairs. It was Kerrigan and she asked if we wanted to hear something funny in a book she was reading. I looked in her hands and saw a small chapter book that I bought for her last spring. That surprised me in and of itself. Then she proceeded to relate what had happened to this point in the story as if she had watched it on a video! I asked how she knew all that about the story and she looked at me like I'd lost it. "In the book, Mom!" she said (and I knew she was thinking, "Duh!") I was impressed that she had comprehended that much and could tell it flawlessly. I've been waiting for this day.

P.S. But the funny part might have been when I just asked her what the name of the book was and she said, "Santa Dog. I think we have all the seasons." :)

To Read or Not to Read?

Tony likes to read but he rarely has time to just sit down and enjoy a book. This morning it became obvious just how long it had been when 7.5 yr old Kerrigan discovered him in the living room, book in hand. Her observation? "I didn't knew you read!" (said in her exact words - typo intended - read prounounced as red)

Book Tag

Although, I technically wasn't "tagged", I saw this on TeenRev's blog and thought it looked fun.

1. ONE BOOK that changed your life: Meeting God at a Dead End by Ron Mehl

2. ONE BOOK that you have read more than once: Love Comes Softly by Janette Oke

3. ONE BOOK that you would take on a desert island: not a fair question…I have both my Mom’s and Dad’s Bibles and would not want to leave one behind…can I count them as one if I can fit them both in one Bible case?

4. ONE BOOK that made you laugh: First Comes Love by Whitney Lyles (disclaimer: This is not necessarily the type of book I endorse. But I don’t usually laugh out loud while reading books. This one literally had me doing that and often b/c it was soooo realistic!)

5. ONE BOOK that made you cry: pick any title by Karen Kingsbury

6. ONE BOOK that you wish had never been written: Harry Potter

7. ONE BOOK you are currently reading: Good Grief by Granger E. Westberg

8. ONE BOOK you have been meaning to read: Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World by Joanna Weaver

9. The ONE BOOK you most recently finished: Julotta by Tracie Peterson

10. ONE BOOK you started but never finished: Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman (and started several times!)

Editor’s note: I read a lot of light-hearted romance novels that I didn’t include here but I never remember the titles of them and consider them “fluff reading”, as my librarian calls it :) I have had to put aside the latest Karen Kingsbury books even though I want to read those REALLY BAD!! But I just don’t think I am ready to add that emotional roller coaster of life in fiction. I have enough of that for real at the present! Didn’t want to give off a more educated or Spiritual impression than what I truly am, if that makes sense.
