We are such terrible parents that we didn't even get our kids very much candy for Easter. I don't know what the deal is but every year, I throw away the better portion of chocolate Easter bunnies that I find in their baskets stashed in their rooms. I decided that if they don't like 'em why buy 'em? So, since we are saving all our extra pennies for spring break to be spent in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge next week, we bought the two younger ones a L'ilKins and Britnee got her very first "grown-up" CD. They also got spending money for vacation and some Crunch and Willy Wonka "Golden" eggs. They seemed happy enough and tonight or tomorrow we'll get more candy to their liking 50% off (or more :) I would have never dreamed of doing such a thing a few years ago!
I also didn't take one Easter photo because it seems like that is the main holiday that I have scrapped several years in a row. I thought I might get them to rate this Easter as more memorable for the fact that "Mom actually didn't get the camera out". But I didn't even hear a "thank you".
They DID get new clothes, dyed eggs and had a treasure hunt. And in typical Easter tradition, we had ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, mixed vegetables (my choice would have been fried green beans but Tony beat me to it), deviled eggs, candied sweet potatoes, homemade bread and cookie dough brownies for lunch. When we sat down to the dinner table (complete with tablecloth, nice dishes, glass glasses and Nonnie's special silverware) I overheard Janae saying to herself, "Wow, look at all the food! I can't wait until NEXT Easter!" So I don't think anyone noticed the lack of chocolate bunnies in their baskets.
