$50,000 and counting...

Yesterday was annual Missions Sunday at Frankfort Bible Holiness Church. We enjoyed two very good services with Brady Duren. He is definitely doing wonderful things for the furtherence of God's kingdom and his out-of-the-box challenges created a spark of interest once again in our own hearts to do more.

Our Sunday evening service always ends with annual pledges for the coming year. I'll have to admit I wondered how things would turn out with gas prices sky rocketing. But once again the congregation went above and beyond last year's total and we ended with over $50,000 in pledges. This is the only night of the year that it is appropriate to use cell phones in the service :)

Listening to Pastor Mowery admonish us throughout the pledge time with statements similar to these: "You can never outgive God," "Give to God's work first and everything else will fall into place," "We must be a mission-minded church in order for God to bless us," brought back sweet memories of my dad who I've heard say the same things and over and over. And then my mind went to the huge void that my parents have left in their sacrificial giving. Who will fill that gap?

All I can say is, "Lord, help me to pick up the torch and do my part."
