There'll be a Manning at the Super Bowl, but not the one I would have predicted! After the Colts lost last week to the Chargers, I was in the depths of despair. Okay, it wasn't quite THAT bad but Tony was getting aggravated at hearing me moan and groan the rest of the night. He's just glad to be rooting for a team who wins more than they lose (think Detroit Lions). Well, I figured I could live with the loss if the Giants could win their game that night and they did. But never in a million years did I really think they would pull off another win this week over the Packers (sorry, Kasey!) But after missing a 30-something yard field goal, the game went into overtime and amazingly, they were able to kick a 40-something field goal for the win! I won't be holding my breath for them to beat the Patriots. I'm just glad one Manning brother gets the opportunity to step on the field on Super Bowl Sunday :) Go Giants!!

Yes! I was originally rooting for the Packers but decided pre-game that I'd like to see the Giants win. and they deserved it too! So many calls in favor of the Packers and yet they still pulled it off! I was holding my breath at the end with that 40 yard FG since he'd just missed 2 in a row! I'm happy for Eli! They dominated most of their game with the Patriots back on 12/29 so let's hope they can do that again and pull off the big win!
I guess I never knew your were such a sports freak either, lol! You poor girls, you need to go shopping for some shoes and leave that football stuff up to the guys, HA! I think it is neat that the Mannings will be able to share this experience with Eli this year. I think that would be really neat if the Giants won the SB!
You girls and your football crack me up! Did you like it before you got married or is it one of those things you picked up just to please him? :)
Hey, I didn't care enough to watch the game, but I still was glad that a Manning would still get to go to the SuperBowl.
Shoot, I'm cheering for anyone that plays AGAINST the Patriots!
I had no idea you were a football kinda gal!! :) I'm crossing my fingers and toes that those Giants beat those nasty Patriots.
Janiece, shoes? who would take painful shoes over the excitement of a close game?? lol!
Jody, my dad was very much into sports...baseball, basketball, football; pro, college; you name it, he listened to it! So I grew up with an appreciation for those games but mostly enjoyed baseball. I didn't pay too much attention to the other sports unless a team that meant alot to us was in the playoffs. But as opinionated as I am, I've always had a preference for who should win the World Series or Finals (basketball) :) So, I guess you could say I've gotten into football more since being married to Tony but mostly since having a team to root for that wins. It just got kinda tiring rooting for the Lions who rarely won anything. Tony and I did go see the Lion's practice on a vacation one summer and since then, I guess it kinda got "in my blood". I get more involved in yelling at the players and refs than Tony does (imagine that!)
Michelle, Tony said I should let Rodney know that he RARELY crosses lines to root for another division but this year he is breaking his rule and rooting for the Giants :)
Rodney wanted the Giants to win Sunday and I'm waiting to see who he's actually gonna root for at the Super Bowl. I know who I'm rooting for. ;o)
Yahoo headlines today said there was a "sighting" of Brady in a foot cast. and that he neither confirmed nor denied it.
I am glad you share my love of football. Not many gals understand me,except for Melinda. I've never gotten into any other sports though, except Steven's little league - LOL
Jody - I never cared much about football until I met Rodney. We went to a game once with Alan and Janelle Cooper and that was it for me. I was sold....
Sara, We're saying "Go Giants" at our house too. But I think I'm just cheering for anyone who is playing against the Patriots. I'm not as mean as Matt though. He was cheering for anyone on the Patriots team to get hurt. I think that means he really didn't want them to win. What do you think?
Bobbie, me thinks that Tony and Matt think too much alike when it comes to football! lol!! :) :)
Yay, Carrie and Denise! Glad to see you're thinking clearly :)
Sara, I would never have guessed that your dad listened to sports. Interesting! Makes me feel like I'm not so alone. Lots of people in our little group pretty much are down -- way down -- on it.
Steve, that's why we held our breath when they read his obituary at the funeral :) (Barb wrote it and said, "He spent many hours pitching horseshoes and listening to the Detroit Tiger's.") Wasn't sure how that was gonna go over but it was soooo much a part of Dad. He would often call Tony for scores on Sunday afternoon if he had to do extra study and couldn't hear the game :) My family has grinned many times over when I shared with them that you posted on myholiness (joking of course) wondering if it was wrong to pray for the Colt's to win (last year :) It just made sense to us kids!!
I'm actually a little torn over the big bowl. I would love to see Brady and the Pats wrap up the 19-0record and make history. I would also love to see Eli and the Giants win (only because I want Eli to win the BIG game earlier in his career than Peyton did). I will be wearing my Patriots hat though, if that gives you any idea of my vote.
I'm guessing that Steve H. never heard the story of our youngest brother, Earl's response as a little guy when the Evangelist asked from the pulpit, "Do you listen to the ballgames on the radio?" To which Earl yelled a resounding "Yes!" Dad sat there holding his head high - I think the rest of us were scared to death that that moment would be the "end" of our father's career~~!!! I also remember "Al Kaline" (sp?) day with the Detroit Tigers one Sunday when I was about 12 or 13ish. During Sunday dinner, the entire broadcast was being played for the whole family. You would have thought dad was being blessed in church the way he was reacting to the "honors" being bestowed upon Al! Ahhh, the soothing sound of Ernie Harwell announcing a Detroit Tigers Game - one of the most soothing sounds of my childhood....
As far as the loud "rooting" for your team - we got that from our mother! You probably never heard her at a Little Leage baseball game - all the kids wanted mom and dad to come because the bleachers got "noisy". None of the other parents said anything, but when mom and dad showed up, Mom yelled at the pitcher, etc. as much or more than dad did! It was great!!! Dad probably has his seat all picked out in Heaven to watch the game this week-end.... it will be the best seat in the house!
