From what we understand, our little town used to have a festival. But they let it drop the last couple years. Well, they finally got the backing from wherever little towns get backing to revive it this year. I got the schedule of events from the library the other day and we were looking forward to all the fun: talent show, horse pull, parade, cake walk, etc. We missed out on the talent show last night (for good reason...a friend's birthday...I will be posting photos later of that) and then this morning woke up to gray drizzly rain. Much needed rain, I might add, but on the day of all the festivities?!?!?! Wahhhh!
We watched the parade from our van and then headed to town for groceries hoping to return in time for the horse pull and a drier climate.
It did stop raining for a bit and the kids were able to enjoy the giant inflatables, funnel cakes, ice cream, elephant ears and finally supper :) Somewhere in between all that we did watch the horse pull for a while. They didn't have a sound system and we had never been to a horse pull, so we didn't completely understand all that was going on. But we could definitely see some strength in these monsters! Whew!
One team was especially out of control. After about 7 attempts to hitch them to the cart (there is a split second between catching the hook on the cart to the harness -or whatever it's called- to egging the horses on as they apparently needed to be in motion to get good footing and pull the weight the farthest) the team finally pulled a good ways and started heading off track towards us! Well, they weren't that close, but it felt close enough. I felt sorry for the guy that had to keep hold on them through the workout...he walked away rubbing his arms and shaking his head. I kinda got the feeling that he wasn't real happy with the other two guys that kept letting the horses get away.

Trying to calm the out-of-control team
Pulling the load off track - towards us! Ack!

Tomorrow we are hoping to enjoy a gospel sing at the park in the afternoon...weather permitting.

Who is singing at the gospel sing tomorrow? Love to know.
Pass the funnel cake. You can always join us at Pilgrim Camp for the children's services.
I love festivals! I also love funnel cake. :)
At least the rain stopped in time to enjoy some of the activities. I'm sure your girls had such fun! :)
Uh-oh! Our family breaks the funnel cake rule---we do not share it. We get our own! I make them at home sometimes...not quite as good as some but they pass in a pinch! I am with you on the cotton candy! I miss the Maple Syrup Festival!
