Bike Blessings and Bad News Booboos

Last fall when our dryer when capoote, Tony decided to clean up some other things from the back yard including a few bikes that had seen better days. We were hesitant to invest in new ones this spring without having a shed to put them in for protection from the weather.

What a blessing when our neighbor, who got a new bike, gave her 2 year old one to Janae (thanks, Emily!) It was still in very nice condition. The next day, we happened upon one for Kerrigan at Goodwill for $4.99. And a few weeks later, Tony completed the set with another Goodwill special for Britnee. Three bikes for less than the price of one brand new one. Not bad.

Then came the boo boos. First it was Kerrigan trying to break the speed limit. She turned around to look behind her, jerking her handle bars to a hard left in the process. She shot straight out of her seat like a ball out of a canon and slid along the paved road until she came to a screeching halt. Tony carried her in, a huge knot already forming above her left eye. I was very worried and of course, since she was tired out from the day to begin with, we struggled to keep her awake for the suggested two hours. Thanks to some oldie cartoons (which she loves) we managed and she is alive and well today. She WAS a little worried that all the kids at school would make fun of her but I never heard anymore about it, so apparently the shiner went unnoticed by most of her class. Tony suffered enough fright from the incident that the following day he came home with bike helmets for each of the girls. Some hip hip hoorayed and others groaned. I will leave names alone for your speculation.

A day or two after that mishap, Britnee came hobbling through the front door. Somehow her foot had slipped off it's pedal but the pedal kept going and proceeded to do a really nice deep scrape all the way up her shin. I didn't get gruesome pictures of the scrape - only the bandages. Do we have to buy shin guards too?!?!?

Janae must be cautious or tough. I've yet to see any of her injuries. (knock on wood!)

I asked Kerrigan about her eye and from her version of the event, I thought she had run into the van while her father was driving! I wondered why Tony would be trying to run her over...
