A Sad Day

I know some of you will totally think I’ve jumped off the deep end. Especially since many of you know my personal love for cats (cough, cough!) But…yesterday we discovered our girl’s beloved pet, Gabriel had ceased to exist without our knowing anything about it.

We went to Michigan last weekend for two weddings. We hadn’t seen Gabe around anywhere upon our return. But since he was a male, he would often roam the neighborhood and come home a few days after we would get back from a weekend up north. So we didn’t think too much of it. Our neighbors discovered him in our backyard yesterday (thank the Lord for small blessings…that the girls didn’t find him!) From as best as we can figure, he died of natural causes.

Tony had the job of the burial (not to say that he didn’t TRY to convince me since he cooks and helps me clean, I should be the one doing the “man’s” job J) and since Gabe had been gone for a few days, it was pretty bad and the girls weren’t able to even watch or be part of the “funeral

Now some of you are probably trying to figure out why in the world I am sharing this with YOU. But some are family, some are teachers of our kids, some animal lovers yourselves and some of you have children who were friends of Britnee, Janae and Kerrigan and they no doubt heard about Gabe on a weekly if not daily basis.

So here you will find my tribute to our pet. This is my way of giving the girls a little closure, remembering the good times and helping them to realize that Mommy really does care even if she isn’t a die-hard animal lover (isn’t it amazing the things you do when your children grieve?)
